The event also marks an important milestone for Irish diver Oliver Dingley in what will be his first competition after officially qualifying to represent the nation.

His ‘road to Rio’ which begins this weekend will lead him to the Olympic Qualifying event in March. Should he achieve his goals he will become the first Irish diver to qualify for the Olympics in 68 years.

He’ll be competing alongside divers from all over Ireland including his Shamrock Diving Club team-mates – Natasha MacManus and Jack Ffrrench. Natasha has been Ireland’s leading female diver for several years and this Summer achieved 10th place finish at the European Games in Baku. Jack Ffrench is an emerging talent who has spent his diving career locally with Shamrock Diving Club at the National Aquatic Centre and has recently begun to compete internationally.

Extra media attention is being focused on the event thanks to the participation of one of the stars of World diving, Great Britain’s Tom Daley. London 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist and former World Champion in the 10m platform, Tom and his Dive London team-mates will bring a wealth of talent both established and emerging to the competition and challenge the Irish contingent to perform at their very best.
